First Sino-German Expert Workshop on Surge Protection Devices Certification

On 13 October 2014, a workshop on “Certification of Surge Protection Devices (SPD)” took place in Shanghai. Participants on the Chinese side were the China Quality Certification Center (CQC), the Lightning Protection Center (LPD) and the Lab of Lightning Protect Performance for Communication Products (LPCP) and on the German side the Zentralverban Elektrotechnik- und Elektroindustrie (ZVEI), the German Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (VDE China) as well as other industry representatives.
Followed by a number of presentations, the participants discussed CB-reports, part of the “Certification Bodies Scheme” in particular as well as testing and certification of SPDs in general. The discussion centered specifically on lightning protection devices. The results of the discussion will be reported to the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the chinese Certification and Accreditation Administration (CNCA), while the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), which is responsible for the approval of lightning protection devices, will also be incorporated for further analysis. In the next meeting the evaluation of the CMA can then be directly included into the further project planning.
