Inmetro gathers input for its New Regulatory Model Proposal
On March 25, Inmetro launched public consultation nº 8/2021 to gather input from interested parties on the “Principles and Guidelines” to modernise the institute’s regulatory model.
Drawing inspiration from the quality infrastructure systems and regulatory models in Europe and the US, the proposal attempts to reshape Inmetro’s technical regulation and conformity assessment processes, focusing on general regulations and essential requirements and broadens the scope of market surveillance activities. It aims to remedy current shortcomings of Inmetro’s regulatory model which is characterised by low coverage, imposes a high administrative burden on businesses and inhibits innovation.
The proposal for “Foundations of a New Approach for Inmetro’s Regulatory Model” was developed by a working group within Inmetro. It was directly supported by GIZ’s Trade for Development Fund and GPQI Brazil. An English version of the proposal can be accessed below.
Please feel free to contact GPQI Brazil at firstname.lastname@example.org to share your input on Inmetro’s modernisation proposal.
