The Mexican Senate calls to send opinions on the Quality Infrastructure Law Initiative

The Commissions of Finance and Public Credit and Legislative Studies of the Mexican Senate call on the private sector, academic and research institutions, specialists, civil society organizations, and others interested in the subject to send their opinions on the Quality Infrastructure Law initiative, which is planned to replace the current Federal Law on Metrology and Standardization.

In general, the law initiative aims to enhance the Mexican Quality Infrastructure (QI) System and to facilitate trade by strengthening technical regulation and standardization, also taking into consideration a stronger orientation towards international standards and best practices. The latter is also relevant to further harmonize conformity assessment processes.

The law initiative also includes the appointment of the National Commission for Standardization as the supervisory and control body of the QI system, the establishment of an appropriate conformity assessment infrastructure in the preparation of new Official Mexican Standards (NOM), the regular inspection of accredited conformity assessment bodies, the use of IT and communication technologies to elaborate NOMs more efficiently, and the launch of an incentive system to strengthen compliance with the NOMs, among other measures.
